Puffins and Haggis: The Isle of Skye

On my third full day on the Isle of Skye and simply cannot take enough pictures of the beauty around me. Our stunning rental house backs into the sea with windows all around framing the rolling hills beside us. We took advantage of brilliant sunshine our first day to do a small hike along the base of the Cuillin Ridge. C, his brother, and dad are out walking the entire length of the ridge today, so our second day was very low-key: eating my first Haggis with Neeps and Tatties, chasing sheep that seem to roam freely, and playing Trivial Pursuit in the eternal dusk.

The boys got a 3:30am start to the ridge… Several hours later we ladies joined a boat tour of the Small Isles that separate the Inner and Outer Hebrides. Speeding along, we passed seals and puffins sunning themselves on the rocks and even saw a porpoise about 15 feet from the boat! We stopped for a bit on the island of Canna for a hot drink and a wander through the harbor which boasts three chapels (and many highland cows) for its less than a dozen residents.

Back at the rental now with a good book and a cup of tea hoping the men are keeping warm on their 18 hour trek!
